A true friend
One night when the weather was awry my young child oh so shy ask with curious delight Oh father oh father what makes a true friend? I smiled warmly and said softly a true friend is one who has your back even when everyone else attacks like a hero? the kid pipes awe in his eyes yes I said with a chuckle a hero who never turns away who rides the waves beside you never going away the kid tilts his head curiously w

A Cold Winter Night
A cold winter night brings with it frights as you close your eyes letting your mind wander where you rather it not. Deep into the forest where the wind chills the bone keeping you moving in fear of sleeping. Yet the snow keeps crunching louder and louder till it's all you can hear but you can't stop moving wait what's that breathing? Trailing down you neck sending chills up your spine no time to look behind. Fear runs through your veins pushing you forward without restraint but your legs are cold and freezing to the ground you can't go on much longer there's light up ahead. One foot after the other you reach for the light as the crunching gets louder you feel a claw brush your shoulder as into the light you tumble. It's time to wake up.

We all Matter
Why must family hurt one another with dreadful words building up anger and resentment as each day goes by. Breaking down each other still they can no longer feel any love in fear of it being squashed and thrown aside met with only hateful remarks bye and bye. Yet these people are told to hide away in order not to inflict pain on the person who caused them the endless torment. For they are family and so they get a free pass as many would say but they have gone astray for what the family do often hurt more even without a blow. Even children who are often cast aside experience this pain and they can not getaway for what're they to do with the parents always lurking around the corner? If it's only verbal they're often belittled children and adults alike for words don't hurt as much as stones some fools would say when in reality words can cut deeper then any wound and last much longer. Even when people of power bother to care often times the options are few some would just shoo you

Silent Lullaby
Please let me sing this lullaby from countless miles and time zones away composed just for you tonight I cannot make my voice resound in the room where you lay Still... Perhaps these words can somehow bridge the space between us and echo in your mind while you rest Silent lyrics which can ring out as you read them at any time so even the faintest thread of good intentions can connect us... ...until we ar

A Just Readjustment
I have noticed a certain word used as if whatever follows afterwards holds little significance or even less consequence… It is just just… just… that words can imply so much they are easy to take for granted Like when a person just opens the door to help someone encumbered to step through or when the gloomy skies clear enough just for a shaft of sunlight to cascade onto the darkened landscape or when a nurse just does her or his duty to care for a sick patient

I Write...
I write… to illuminate the dreams inscribed within my soul pockets of consciousness which if left unattended might fade into obscurity I write… to awaken from hypnotic dazes caused by routines composed of one task after another until the mind gets stuck in an automated mode and loses sight of all the possibilities that exist throughout our universe or await their birth from an active imagination I write… to break free one piece

Moss Green
Moss green fence slats lay decaying in the backyard, half dried from recent rain. The squirrels rustle across dead leaves, fleeing barking dogs and near-silent cats prowling for a quick meal. Pollen saturates the air; mushrooms grow in the shade of fallen branches as the fuzz of lichen creeps over a trunk felled in favor of a wooden fence.

cultural dissonance
1. i have flown around the world and you - you remind me of home aunties, uncles, cousins teta and jiddo men and women brown from dry heat and desert sun but then there are waves crashing against sandy seashores and there are palm trees ripe with falling fruit fresh at the market and there are men fishing at the phoenician wall it's give and take and like this land you are never selfish 2. i have flown around the world and you - you remind me of all that i miss so i'll tell you you're beautiful when this sense of discord is poured down my throat and dissonance shows up like an eclipse but you can still find me in the dark and y

nailed to the counter
fivey eyed the barn door, her right forearm tingled with a quite familiar burn, it informed her tone: "you nannys ain't dealin' proper. i had hoped this would stay above-board, but if you wanna wake snakes, let's frolic!" her right arm shot out, glowing energy pulled three armed men through splintering wood; the barn creaked and the men screamed as their bodies were dragged across the dirt before being launched out the far wall. fivey stomped her left foot; the two shotguns trained on her slithered, hissed, and— with both barrels— bit the two closest men in their necks. her right foot slid behind her in a perfect half-circle,

Where Nothing Dares Settle
we assume the fish that appears to advance without moving does so, effortlessly; as if the sea itself merely wills them forward we long to swim like this to hold our position in the universe while the earth churns its oceans past, as if its motion were ours and perhaps it might be if we could only comprehend how much lag truly resides in the linkage between space and time, then we'd know water like it knows us our ins and outs and the low places where nothing dares settle for long we'd know why sleep evades when we're most spent, as memories older than our own activate, once we traverse a certain set proximity

Sound Carries Near a Salt Flat
the noise of a dying man is that of a humpack whale reverberating across the desert thermocline, tunneling between the dune and the horizon. he whines, low, not loud, but it surrounds us; ocean pressure straining at the sides of a submerging ship. the harpoon head of the frag bomb burns in his leg - flesh irreparably breached - as that groaning calls navigation signs to some unknown counterpart far across the sand. I can swear to you he will be gone in forty-eight hours from the sepsis if medical can't make it to this fucking shelled-out excuse for a town by tomorrow evening. I give a sedative still, his cries carry like those son

stormchaser
dear sarah, yesterday I tried to swallow the sun. it burned me up on the inside until even my skin was hot to the touch, and I thought of you. I hope you have found better ways than me to feel lighter. heaven knows there are days where I still trade my feet for concrete blocks and try to sprint to the finish line, but at least I have stopped straying towards the riverbanks. at least I get out of bed. most days, that’s enough. but if you tell me that most days life still feels like a choice you’re making every minute, I will tell you that I understand. I have spent years trying to outrun my sadness, sipping sunlight until my vision blurs and looking up only to realize I’ve been going in circles and calling it progress. every escape I ever made is a town I can never go back to and I’m not better for it. I carry so many graveyards around inside of me, and I’ve lost count of how many bridges I’ve burned because I confused loving with leaving. take my sadness away, I don’t

girls on a roof.
aphrodite passes the blunt to persephone, says you have to tell me how you did that, how you seduced hades and they sit there on the roof, the stars twinkling. persephone looks youthful in a way that’s untouched, as if she’s somehow eternally seventeen or made of sunshine. i didn’t have to do much, she says. and aphrodite who’s spent years reading gossip mags & articles about “ true love ” thinks about how she saw hades take off his leather jacket & wrap it around persephone’s shoulders, easy as breathing. kissed the side of her head. gave
